For the record, once again, I have argued that at the
time GR was published in 1973, info about IG Farben
and other historical elements in GR was not widespread
(acknowledging that it had been published prior to
GR's appearance) among general readers, that it
remained in the province of WWII history specialists
and devotees. I continue to believe that at the time
of GR's publication, this is the case. Since that
time, however, many non-fiction books and other
publications (on the Internet, especially) aimed at
general readers have disseminated this sort of WWII
secret history stuff far and wide; I doubt that GR is
a WWII historical source of first resort for many
readers, although I expect that some GR readers will
follow Pynchon's pointers to find out more.

I think GR would be a fine complement for a history
course that covers WWII.
