Futility

O.K., O.K., this has gone on long enough.  The
"definitive meaning," the "lesson," the "moral of the
story," the "inside scoop," the "answer to the
question" of _Gravity's Rainbow_ is :

"As long as the roots are not severed, all is well.
And all will be well in the garden."

Oh, no!  Wait!  I'm thinking of something else.  Never
