With a visual presentation by the wonderful collage
artist (and friend of Lamantia's) J. Karl Bogartte
City Lights surrealist poet Philip Lamantia born
October 23 (so it's kind of a birthday party of sorts)
1927, creates electric transitions between the city
and the wilderness, between the human world and the
natural wilderness. His poems throw open the door to
an explosve dream world where you find yourself
wandering through an opulent labyrinth of apocalyptic
terror, the old west, ancient mythology and forests
and boulevards filled with magic birds. The heart of
his words beat with the regenerative power of love. As
Allen Ginsberg said of him: "An American Original,
soothsayer even as Poe, genius in the language of
Whitman, native companion and teacher to myself."
