>>>Though the WASTE aesthetes may find this a bit trite<<<
"Quite."
No shocker there, Marquis du McMuffin--a cheap cafe hipster-lite such as you is near to pimp status anyhoo, ja? Fratboy and sorority academic types will avoid realism or political approaches to texts at any cost, since their own existences are predicated on mafia or at least racketeering sorts of activities, whether it is corporate hustling, finance, academic careerism, or entertainment scams....
And that is what is amusing about WASTE.org: for all the political overtones of TP's works, there are really few in-depth political or economic approaches to any of his texts mentioned or addressed, apart from the de rigeur college boy liberalism. That's another result of post-modernism relativism ala Derrida: when one reduces political reality to text and denies "logocentric" binaries such as ethical or unethical, just/injust then the criminal--whether the romantic-thug Tupac type or just plain creep-- may be just as heroic as the straights or intellectuals: in hyperreality, a Hefner or Flynt is no cheap white trash panderer; he's another master marketer of porno imagery.....
Nonetheless, Pynchon does address the reality of the mob, though in somewhat ambiguous ways
