Fine old fashioned kind of novel, whose talk is densely sprinked with
old Europe culture. Such wasn't seen as particularly "affected" back
then.
On the g-list they tend to act like ladies and gentlemen and avoid
calling fellow listers boring or jackasses even when they are. Thus,
there's nothing to talk about sometimes.
My theory for why the g-list is so sedate (and completely quiet now and
then) is that it has at least one and maybe more than one member who is
knowledgable, secure in that knowledge, and helpful toward lesser
beings. Nobody wants to act the fool in the company of people like that.
People it is possible to respect.
Don't know why the p-list has never been able to achieve this blessed
state. I've been here for ten years. Not all of us are stupid. But
nothing raises us off the ground.
