(A small observation that comes with no warning, from nowhere...)


Curious how four of Pynchon's five novels open with the image of something airborne:


COL49:  "[Oedipa] thought of a hotel room in Mazatlan, whose door had just been slammed, in seemed forever, waking up two hundred birds down in the lobby ..."

GR:  "A screaming comes across the sky ..."

VL:  "[...] with a squadron of blue jays stompin around on the roof ... carrier pigeons ... the blue jays who came screaming down out of the redwoods ..."

M&D:  "Snow-Balls have flown their Arcs ..."


V., the novel written closest chronologically to P's Boeing experience, doesn't.
