In the movie Hero, when the King confronts Nameless with his lies he says his murderous intent was indicated by the flames of the candles. At least in the subtitles. If you listen to the original Chinese, the phrase he uses is Sha Qi.

(So obviously, [Captain] Zhang Yimou has read Pynchon.)
