You think you "Understand the insane emotional pain that drove 9/11?"  This 
phrase is too vague to form the basis for any real discussion, and thus 
easily promotes "conflation of issues and events."  BTW, I *did* retract my 
mistaken recollection of the Cat Stephens event, so I'm not sure why you 
felt the need to state your worry about this.

But don't you think the INSANITY (the roots of which are subject to debate) 
of the architects of  9/11 is  DIRECTLY related to the fatwa against Rusdie? 
   I do.  The "harm of Cat Steven's Islam" is a minor issue in comparison.
