You can be sure that I'd do the same if I were meeting a woman reading
*anything* of Pynchon, Gaddis or some similar author. But it never happened
and I'm not very optimistic about it.

I agree too. The only male I've ever convinced to read Pynchon and Gaddis
liked both and is now reading the "Cryptonomicon" (my copy).

Well, GR has been partly translated into German by a woman, Austrian writer
Elfriede Jellinek (born 1946 at Mürzzuschlag/Steiermark).

By the way, Arnie is from the Steiermark too.

Another lit-crit-woman from Austria who surely has read Pynchon is Sigrid
Löffler (born 1942), part of the notorious "Literarisches Quartett" on
German tv where, in my opinion, he had the most interesting things to say.
But to my knowledge they never did Pynchon in that programme.

Next week the translation of Neal Stephenson's "Quicksilver" will be out in
German, translated by M&D-translator Nikolaus Stingl and Juliane
Gräbener-Müller (who has translated Frederic Beigbeder, Iris Murdoch and
Elaine Kagan too).
