I always think of the NY Times Magazine articles mostly as filler
between fashion ads and if the Times felt something important needed to
be reported on they would put in the main section of the paper. Perhaps
I'm misinformed however.
But the important point is, I don't think Pynchon's writing could
possibly have been terribly important in the civil rights movement.
Stokely got the attention.
