If Pynchon can be said to have "sold out" simply
because he accepted a reasonable fee for publishing
his work in mainstream magazines, I'm not sure what
meaning "sold out" carries as an epithet.  He appears
to have written what he wanted to write, and he
continued to present intellectually challenging,
subversive works no matter where they were published.
I'm not sure I understand what need is satisfied by
tarring Pynchon with the "sell-out" brush, beyond the
exercise of a merely sophomoric iconoclasm.
