Just a clarification on my part: I agree that it's likely that Pynchon would
have been taking a physical risk (of some degree) in Watts, but when I
mentioned the risk taken by Pynchon, I was actually thinking more about how,
in acting as a journalist, he might have risked his anonymity!

And sorry, jbor, for my mistake re your feelings vis-a-vis the relationship
of the article to travel pieces.
