I read _Sutree_ about ten years ago as my first and only Co McC book to date
and it was juicy prose, best thing since the deliquescent toadstool of tom
mcguane's _'92 in the Shade_ , the ruddy ridden desire lines of willie
faulkner's _Light in August_ , and the goat-footed balloonMan of e e
cummings's "in Just--"
_Sutree_ is also exhiliratingly agonizing in how it never lets its
protagonist to enter the main stream of life, forcing him always onto its
banks and into its margins.
Funny thing was that I was in architecture school while reading it,
assuaging sleepless nights; it not only influenced my designs, but I also
happened to discover somehow that one of my classmates was the author's son.
palpable, indelible book, o, great quail.
best,
elvis co
