hi--

about 200 pgs in Vollman's new novel--much as I expected but I think
the man is getting better--there's less of him and more of the
different personages he creates. think beyond the dense and
encyclopedic nature of WV's work is that he is able to channel some
quite pompous, murderous, and downright badasses--the perpetrators get
the best lines. As usual, the book is very strange--not easy to take
such a well-tilled field and grow something new.

hope to finish Argyll next.
