Story is the hardest word

One person's opinion: I thought the film version of  Ulysses was pretty good 
(& the book's a favorite of mine, so I was ready to  be critical; on the other 
hand, maybe by not expecting much, I was pleasantly  surprised?!), & thought 
Portrait & even Finnegan's Wake weren't bad  attempts, cinematically. 
 
    What do others think?
