what should I read? and top 169 list.

since I have nothing better to do with my life at the moment, followed, 
probably by the Murakami book. When and how was the below-mentioned top 169 
list compiled?  I'd definitely vote for a lot of the books on the list, 
though I'd want to add a lot of others.

There was much talk last year about a list of great books formulated by the 
Wallace list. There was the usual carping about it's quality so I decided 
that we should do our own list. Since such lists are arbitrary I decided on 
an arbitrary set of rules:
Every person wanting to suggest a list of great novels must send a list of 
10 to me ranked in order of greatness. These would then be assembled into a 
larger list using a small piece of software I developed.
There were many complaints and only about 30 people took part but since no 
one else could be bothered to assemble a better list, mine is the default 
p-list list.
