It's not "their foot" yet "her". But thanks for babelfishing! This stuff is indeed 
hard to translate. Thomas Mann, just by the way, thought his books to be
basically "untranslatable". I guess that's one of the reasons why Mrs. Sontag,
late in life, wanted to learn German. In her last European interview she spoke
about her wish to experience _ Der Zauberberg _ [1924] in its original sound..
