exhumed book from nazi slut

Joel,

thanks for responding. I wasn't offended by your post personally because
I do not feel responsible for anything another person, German or not,
relative, friend or stranger, does, has done in the past or will do in
the future.

I did read both books with great interest & full affirmation. Neither
Goldhagen nor Theweleit would support your assertion: "when we speak of
nazis of that time we should indeed speak of germans as a whole."
Because that's nazi talk ("all Jews are evil and poisoning our people"),
undifferentiated, just reversing the stereotype and historically simply
not true. And, how do you catch the real criminals, the elect, if you
make it so easy for them to hide among the preterite?

I must admit that my pity for those German victims of the war has always
been (very) limited. What did they expect after burning and looting
nearly all of Europe? But without checking the book before I simply
wouldn't call that anonymous woman a "nazi slut". Maybe she was, maybe
not. The murderous anti-semitism began with prejudices exactly of that
kind, long before the nazis came to power.

And, do you really think "they should have walled in the whole country
and let them feed on themselves"?

Please keep up the good humour in your posts, I've always liked them.

Otto
