Hoy! Hoy!
With regards to the origin of Pynchon's Kenosha Kid; wasn't the
hometown of young filmmaker Orson Welles issued some notoriety by the media
nicknaming him the "Kenosha Kid" as well ? A film enthusiast such as Pynchon might
have become familiarized with Welles' biography and discovered a name that
could double as the name of an imaginary swing-era dance craze that a fictional
character in a novel may, or may not have "did". Of course, I have no idea
whatsoever if the name from the comic book could have played any role in
nicknaming Mr Welles. Simply curious.
