Robert Coover is worth a look. I've read three of his novels and
enjoyed them all: Origin of the Brunists, The Public Burning, and
Gerald's Party. Like Pynchon, he has a penchant for the
fantasmagorical, and can be funny, heartbreaking, and dirty-minded all
at the same time.
