A really good little essay on narrative function; looks briefly at _Lot
49_ and a couple of episodes from _GR_ but is obviously very relevant
to _M&D_. Also discusses _Beloved_ and one section from Tim O'Brien's
_The Things They Carried_, however, the larger portion of the essay by
far is devoted to a discussion of _Absalom, Absalom_ (which isn't such
a bad thing either.)

'Indeterminate Ursula and "Seeing How it Must Have Looked," or, "The
Damned Lemming" and Subjunctive Narrative in Pynchon, Faulkner,
O'Brien, and Morrison'
by Martin FitzPatrick, _Narrative_ 10.3, October 2002, pp. 244-261.
