I've read Eco; I loved The Name of the Rose and Foucault's Pendulum
was even better. But then something happened and Eco wasn't fun
anymore. His novels became work to get through. The Island of the
Day Before was an overwritten exercise in semiotics. Baudolino was
better but it seemed that Eco had become more involved in the point
he was trying to make than the story, and the humor was there but it
seemed a bit less than fresh. Now I have The Mysterious Flame of
Queen Leona coming from Amazon and I'll read it. Once probably. It
won't be worth the three times I've given to FP or even 2 to Name of
the Rose. I'm expecting another Island I suppose, hopefully
somewhat better.

I've read some of his non-fiction too and for some reason, that's
appearing more and more inviting.
