I'm doing something similar with P.G. Wodehouse's "Luck of the Bodkins."
Published in England in 1935 in 24 chapters, the book was published the
following year in the U.S. with 28 chapters.  Heavy duty editing. The
first difference appears on the first page, where the main character asks
the waiter at a resteraunt at Cannes for letter writing materials.  In
the English edition he has great difficulty in writing the letter, but in
the American edition "the stuff simply flowed."
