the problem with this list is that:

1) pynchon is irrelevant, his metas obsolete (meta-obsolete?)
2) he's ugly, even for a writer
3) the whole recluse thing doesn't work if you're ugly
4) old listers have gotten older; young people are hyperconsumerist death 
vectors and come here only because they're reading pychon in their fucking 
bard seminar
5) anal sex is ubiquitous in porn, the quality of which has improved 
immensely since the dissolution of the former soviet empire.  as martin amis 
notes:  pussy is bullshit; anal is real
6) the internet, folks?  these kinds of lists are like knitting circles now.
7) the world is colder, meaner place, and pynchon doesn't speak to it
8) old-tyme listers sold off their trekkie memorabilia and moved to belize
