and it DOES haunt Slothrop, being part of the conspiracy of death...
enough to try some counter-machinations, and enough to give some huge
self-doubts, and enough to make him rather sympathetic

Bloat qua Bloat (leaving for now the idea of Slothrop as Pynchon, when
They discover his talent, being plucked from his cubicle at
Boeing/ACHTUNG; leaving the idea of Pynchon coming up with the idea for
mobile-based missiles, and then thinking about the fact that the
nuclear physicists in Germany - knowing their boss was evil - managed
to stall and not produce a nuke, whereas the physicists in the USA -
thinking they were on the side of good - went ahead and produced the
sucker, and saw it used)

Bloat likes those hairbrushes with the insignia. (Recently listened to
most of "The Family" by Kitty Kelley, the bio of the Bush family;
there's a poignant quote from a letter GHWB wrote to his mother, asking
her to get his wings for him at a prominent jeweler, and they had to be
"just right" or something)

bureaucratic smegma (P, p 18, line 9) - eeewww

it takes 4 snapshots to get the whole map (p19, ln 2) - big map, so I
guess there would be room to write the names next to the stars -
Slothrop's some kind of tech, which in those days involved drafting, so
he's able to write neatly and small even if his desk is a mess

jigsaw puzzle pieces (18, 26-31) - what's he doing working jigsaw
puzzles in his cubicle? and, do you suppose there is a meaning to them?
We already had a rainbow of colored pencils (ln 15-16) and the jigsaw
pieces are amber, green, slate-blue, orange, pink, and whatever color
rivets are (violet would complete the spectrum)
