Is "They" is or is "They" ain't the Firm?

Recall this exchange ...

   "'You one of these right-wing nut outfits?'
inquired the diplomatic Metzger. 
   "Fallopian twinkled. 'They accuse us of being
paranoids.'
   "'They?' inquired Metzger, twinkling also.
   "'Us?' asked Oedipa." (Lot 49, p. 35)

"They" and "us" being (of course) contingent at best,
but indeterminately so.  Who ISN'T , uh, "Them" in GR,
maybe that's a way to ask the question ...
