This link does not come up for me. Will try again. The first one was great.

jody mentioned the sensitive flame

The sensitive flame had remained in my mind from my previous readings,
but the exposition in 1,5 mostly had not. We have Jessica hitting a
bullseye, the seance, and a lot more Pirate than I realized.

Roger Mexico's introduction takes place here, the Witchcraft Act (and
the trial referred to, which either in the Companion or surfing I
discovered was a real one, or corresponds to a real one reported in
England) and the bevy or covey of psychics ("this (he regrets it with
all his heart) may be the only place in the reach of war's empire
that he does feel less than a stranger" p 33, ln 22-24 - written about
Pirate, "less than a stranger"'s ambiguity (by Umphrey's Law) no doubt
intentional on the part of the author.

And Scorpia Mossmoon. Mossmoon, suggestive of so much.

Need to go to work now, but I should have time tomorrow to track down
whether we learn Pirate's occupation for his brief PFC (Pore Forlorn
Civilian) time -- does anybody know how to get Gmail not to quote all
that HTML gunk -- if not, I am going to another email. I checked all the
help things, I thought
