The last year's Nobel Prize winner Jelinek on Pynchon:

Es ist ein Witz, daß er den Nobelpreis nicht hat, und ich habe ihn. Ich 
halte Pynchon für einen der bedeutendsten lebenden Schriftsteller, weit vor 
Philip Roth übrigens. Ich kann doch den Nobelpreis nicht kriegen, wenn 
Pynchon ihn nicht hat! Das ist gegen die Naturgesetze. Ich wünsche, das 
festgehalten zu haben.

It is high time they gave the prize to TRP. Please not  another obscure poet 
or a politically engaged scribbler with questionable literary merit!

(Although, Joyce and Nabokov never got it. Pynchon is in good company 
anyway)
