Sure, and being a rabid admirer of Pynchon's works I
can also see where others can find him tedious,
overblown,pretentious, etc....however, to do a
wholesale dismissal of his work the way Pekar does is
too irresponsible and too lazy;and yeah I can't
exactly argue that subtle but pithy dialogue is TRP's
strong suit...but it wasn't Joyce's or Faulkner's
either....it's always fun to try to show that the
emperor has no clothes, but Pekar is just Yankin' on
his pud a little too hard and fast with this one...I
love the Everyman approach as well; it's gritty,
punchy, redolant of wise bar-fly truisms about life,
blah blah blah, and I would be a hypocrite if I didn't
say it tends to refresh me these past years after
early on having overdosed on contrived French critical
theory, which I now find to be roughly 86%
bullshit,...but, that being said, I still find this
review, or evaluation, of M&D to be pathetically
trite.
