<<Great. Give the prize to a member of the INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE TO
DEFEND SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC.>>

Ramona Koval: While we?re talking about that region of the world, you
have made interventions?speaking about the Milosevic trial, too?which
have been misreported as ?Pinter defends Milosevic,? kind of thing. But
that?s actually not your position.

Harold Pinter: No, no, no. My position is that I think Milosevic should
be given a fair trial. If he?s to be tried, then it should be an
impartial, objective trial. And clearly it cannot be the case here,
because he?s being tried essentially and effectively by NATO. NATO is
paying for the court. Therefore it?s a NATO court. It is, if you like,
a victor?s court and it cannot possibly be impartial.

Ramona Koval: So if he?s found guilty as a war criminal by a court that
you think is properly convened, you wouldn?t have any bad feelings
about that.

Harold Pinter: If it was a properly impartial and objective trial. But
I repeat, however, I think that NATO is itself a war criminal, if you
understand, as much as Milosevic is. But there?s no way of NATO judging
NATO. A NATO court is not going to put NATO up in the witness box. So I
think there?s something extremely unbalanced here and I think it really
stinks, actually.
