Gravity's Rainbow Group Read

What follows is being rattled off double-quick so apologies in advance
for lack of coherence, ideas, etc.

I think someone asked what we should do about the previous Group Read (I
lost that email). This is a good question. If we do decide to do it (and
I hope we do) we'll surely need to set out some kind of format or
parameters for the discussion? I know it's been suggested, I think
correctly, that we won't need 'hosts' as such. But we'll need *some*
kind of structure surely? And this'll have to include deciding how to
deal with what's already been generated by the previous Group Read.
There'll be no point in going over definitions of 'maisonette' and so on
yet again.

So maybe we need to approach the read from the perspective of having
some kind of unified theme? You notice I'm being vague!

I'm hopeful we can do the Group Read, and I'll be an enthusiastic
participant, but I'm not setting myself up to play the role Andrew Dinn
did back then. If someone emerges who wants that role, as Dubya would
say, "Bring 'em on".

Otherwise I humbly suggest that we take a section at a time, mentioning
as we go anything that we think worth noting, but perhaps taking as an
overall theme an aim to clarify what is going on in the narrative, maybe
not from the perspective of a first-time reader, since that would
preclude looking forward to later episodes etc., but, say, from the
perspective of a second-time reader, now going more carefully through
with the aid of the GR companion, and whatever other sources anyone
wants to throw in. We will also have the previous group read to use as a
resource.

Any thoughts welcome......

Cheers

JC
