One of numerous sources which indicate that the Allies were aware of the
Death Camps and their use by 1942 is an articl by Barbara Rogers: "British
Intelligence and the Holocaust: Auschwitz and the Allies Re-examined"
An excerpt: "The author contends that a definite and detailed picture of
Auschwitz-Birkenau had been provided for the British Government from a
variety of sources by December 1942." PDF format available.
As well, I have been taught in numerous American and European history
classes that Roosevelt and Churchill were aware of the Death Camps by
1941-1942. When considering the measures that could be taken the Allied
leaders considered bombing train tracks, etc., but felt that their forces
would be best used to focus upon defeating the armies of the Axis Powers.
Take Care,
Dustin
