GR P1 S1: "The Evacuation still proceeds..." (was Gravity's Rainbow Group Read)

No, it's not my 'ticket'. But you seem to have started the discussion
segment without giving people the chance to do the atual reading.

Maybe it's appropriate that the Group Read begins in this way, with no
formal announcement, no definition of terms, no hosts, no schedule,
quite chaotic. There is a certain amount of confusion among participants
and would-be participants as to whether this is the Group read at all.
Has it begun? Is this it? No one told you when to run, you missed the
starting gun...

Not at all, but I guess I should have seen things more from
the viewpoint of someone who has not yet experienced the
great tide of a GR group read. I sort of lurched ahead having
had the experience of a couple-three of them already inculcated
on my brain, including the hosts' posts.

But you have a point. There may be a tendency to over generalize,
about thematic issues without a more formal structure. On the
other hand, I've seen things get bogged down on minutiae when
a series of specific terms are listed by the host as wanting definition,
although some interesting points have been made that way.

(What's an "iron queen", for example, a bed? a boat? and, what's
so old about it? My immediate reflex is to connect it, somehow,
with the "cockades the color of lead", p.4- for certain reasons, but?)

It just seems that a lack of volunteers and/or a specific schedule
shouldn't derail fun. But, by all means, schedule away, if that's
your ticket.
