Who is the heir to Thomas Pynchon?

And at the risk of getting lambasted - especially since he's a contemporary  
of TRP rather than an "heir" - I'd nominate another candidate as John Barth, 
for  both writing ability and scope. Yes, I agree much of his later work was a  
dilution of his earlier; but ya gotta pay SOME tribute to an epic like Giles  
Goat Boy...no...?!?
