Barth, Pynchon, heirs etc.

What I find interesting now is how we so easily and quickly left behind the
discussion of TRP's heirs of successors.  The relative gulf is really
something to look at.

I wonder:  do so few follow him because, in the end, there is no where
particularly to go?  That is not a repudiation of Pynchon's work, of course,
but a question regarding whether there is a fruitful path forward,
ultimately.  Perhaps the field of deeply serious yet utterly hilarious and
unruly historical post-modern epics is already full.

That said, who will speak on behalf of:
William Vollmann?
Salman Rushdie?
Zadie Smith?
