Yes, this seems to be the logic of "reader-traps", as I get it.

The great late Brian Stonehill wanted to include that essay in the
Pomona site some time in '95. However, there were/are quite a few
typos resulting from the conversion to HTML by the Pomoneans. (No
WYSIWYG editors available back then.) Now, I was supposed to correct
the layout when Brian invited me to visit Claremont in Feb '96, to
give an Americanist paper on GR at the Pomona College. But there
happened to be this conference on, yes, "Addiction" in Claremont
at the same time, and I ended up having a few too many beers with
the "Bad Subjects" bunch from Berkeley, and was too hung over the
following morning to modify the HTML code... However, the article
can be found in much better shape (in ASCII format) in here:
www3.iath.virginia.edu/pmc/text-only/issue.197/contents.197.html
So, if somebody really wants to read it, I ask him/her to go there.
Think twice before doing it, though - for instance, "An American
Dream" is credited in the essay to Dreiser, and I could swear I
typed "An American Tragedy" when writing it. But probably I only
thought I typed.
