That's true to a certain extent, I'm sure. But the Communists got
12.3% of the vote in the 1933 elections while the other parties got:
National Socialists 43.9%, Nationalists 8%, Center Party 11.7%,
Social Democrats 18.3% and all others 5.8% of the votes.
The Jewish population in Germany in 1932, was something in the
neighborhood of 1%. About 1/2 million emigrated that year, leaving
the Jewish population at the time of the election at about .75%. I
think that Stalin was equated with Bolshevism more than Jews were,
although I'm not denying that "Jewish Bolsheviks" were demonized.
I'm saying that Hitler "used" anti-Semitism as he used a number of
other issues but that he did not unify all of Germany behind
anti-Semitism. The reasons behind the Holocaust are more complex
than the equally simplistic but "Hitler-the-madman" or
"Germans-the-anti-Semitic-tribe" theories would make it.
