And no one should have any concern whatsoever for the
teaching of "Intelligent Design" in the classroom side by
side with the theory of evolution. It's the best thing that could
happen.
Children are not fooled easily. If the theory of evolution has
any merit at all, it can only be strengthened by the comparison.
This represents a real opportunity for a stimulating thought
producing consideration of reality, which has been sadly
missing from public education. It also marks a very real
admission that evolution is valid by the creationists.
Less than 100 years ago these folks were attempting to ban
the teaching of the theory of evolution in the schools. Now
they are suing for permission to bring up an idea which is
almost identical with evolution, in all respects, except the
initial step.
Furthermore, their key logical thrust: irreducible complexity
equals design, is an exact inversion of Stephen Wolfram's
hypothesis in "A New Kind of Science," wherein he demon-
strates the genesis of complexity from the iteration of simple
rules, using cellular automata. I'm surprised he hasn't spon-
sored the debate himself. ID is a perfect foil for his theory.
Let them have their god. Take Reality and run....
