I don't think the idea is that "nothing" was there
(whatever THAT might mean under the circumstances ...)
before the big bang, it's that what we egnerally
consider to be something (time, space, energy, matter,
et al.) wasn't. Not, at least, in actuality. Maybe
potentiality ... but I'm under the impression taht,
these days, we're talking some sort of fluctuation out
of some kind of quantum field (whatever TAHT might
mean). These seem helpful ...
