Oh yes, I didn't mean to imply these particular plants were some
small-time operation lovingly tended by latter-day Zoyd Wheelers etc. Of
course prohibition puts the production of prohibited substances in the
hands of criminal gangs. 

I don't think your (or any) govt needs to take its head out of its ass,
I think they know fine rightly what a crock the 'war on drugs' is, they
use drug hysteria as a means on manipulating people, and a cover for
civil rights infringements.

Plus of course the alcohol lobby keep the pressure on the politicians
not to legalise eg. marijuana, for obvious reasons.

None of this is news of course, just reading the article reminded me of
Vineland, also Stone Junction.

Haven't read 'Budding Prospects', is it any good? Read TC Boyle's
'Tortilla Curtain' a few years back and thought it was very good.
