Evolution makes perfect sense. It is the recurring process of tension and
resolution (or movement toward resolution of tension between organisms and
the limitations/obstacles of their environment) over the course of 14
billion years. I don't know how the first carbon atom got there, but that's
not the central concern of evolution or argument of Creationists/IDers. ID
argues that the design of organisms--beyond atoms, on the level of human
digestive systems, etc.--is so complex there *must* be a designer. They're
not saying there may be a God who flipped the switch, they're saying there's
no other explanation for the complexity of organisms but a Creator. That's
simply not so.
I tutor a Hasidic man who thinks the universe started 6,000 years ago, and
obviously evolution sounds implausible to him. But on the p-list? The
convoluted tangents you're taking to debate evolution are baffling.
