Gibbon

Beginning to read anew Gibbon's rise and fall roman empire--as least from
the beginning this time--the new penguin edition does not have an index per
se but it's table of contents makes it easy to find things--really surprised
that Vollmann's RURD doesn't. I dipped my toe into that sea for a bit but I
found it kinda dull
quite amazing how relevant and fun to read is Gibbon--very sad that on
almost each pg one finds that stupidity and hubris hasn't changed all that
much

p.s also recommend (first volume of  trilogy on TR) Richard J Evan's The
Coming of the Third Reich
