He was a little over the top, he seemed like a nice guy who was very
much putting on the act of academia... but then at the end of the
presentation he did talk about one of his friends who had died, like,
the day before or something (the author of Austerlitz I believe?) and
I think that effected him a lot, though I am the only one he was
shooting dirty looks at. Everyone else he was being quite civil with.
When I saw T.C. Boyle though - weeee-ow, you nearly drowned in the ego
washing off of him.
