As it turned out, that was just an idle threat anyway.

School newsletters don't tend to get archived, nor kept for long in 
households, so that eBay maven could be sitting on a goldmine (and not 
realise it). Presents an opportunity for some entrepreneurial 
Pynchonista.

I think Mailer contested that apocryphal report about Pynchon jumping 
out the window - though, again, whether you'd believe him is another 
thing. He emerges from that anecdote somewhat worse than Pynchon does.
