Thanks. Not sure how much stock to put into the Harlan Ellison anecdote 
either, but here's what looks like the primary reference from that

(Slabs of '95 and '96 are the only gaps in my back reading of the 
list-archives, and I can't recall seeing mention of it in any of the 
print-based criticism -- though it might well be there and just not 
have registered -- so it has been a new one on me.)

The ad also appeared in the _New York Post_ (on 30 Jan 1968) and 
_Ramparts_ (not sure of the date or issue, but imagine it would be the 
same date, or the closest issue date). I gather it was a sort of 
blanket campaign.

Wonder why he didn't put his name to one of those writers and artists' 
petitions against American military intervention in Iraq after 9/11? 
Particularly now that his name does mean a whole lot more than it would 
have back in '68.
