Am I the only one for whom the word "self-flagellating" calls forth
memories of _Monty Python and the Holy Grail_?  I picture a procession
of monks chanting, "A screaming comes across the sky [bonk] it has
come before [bonk] ..." as they march dolefully through the wastes of
the Zone.
