Henry Holt was more the anomaly -- Penguin/Viking has always been friendly
to Pynchon, and Penguin Press, in particular, is looking for some higher-end
"prestige" authors. From what I understand, the head of Penguin Press wanted
to publish his new book. Also, Pynchon has a new editor now, as well.
