I heard his name mentioned, but I do not recall. I have to confess, I am not
very good at knowing who's who in the world of editing. It was mentioned to
me as sort of a fact-in-passing.

Ha! Awesome. Back in my old job, I worked with a woman who dated Tristan
Taormino for a while. She was invited to a family wedding, and lo and
behold, there was Pynchon. Alas, my friend had never read any of his books,
so for her, it was barely a curiosity! Needless to say, I was somewhat
consumed by jealousy. (Of course, meeting Pynchon may not really be worth
the hassle of dating a woman who advertises butt plugs online, but you never
know...)

PS: My friend said that he was "a kindly uncle-looking guy with a somewhat
haunted look," and it was clear he didn't want to talk to anyone about his
day job.
