Nobel Consideration (was Re: Ideal and idealistic)

I think there's some hope for Pynchon and the Nobel. A lot of time has
passed since the Irwin Corey incident. During that period, Pynchon has
accepted the MacArthur Grant and started to acknowledge the National Book
Award in his flap copy--that could indicate that he's open to accepting
honors, including the Prize. Another factor might be Elfriede Jellinek's
statement that Pynchon
deserves it. Also, if Pynchon is open to receiving the Prize, signals to
that effect can be sent to the Nobel Committee during the nomination
process.

I have my doubts about this year being the year for Pynchon, but I think
that Against the Day could prove to be a decisive factor in subsequent
years.

I admit this is very speculative. I don't think I've ever predicted any
Nobel
Prize correctly.
