Yes he did and it's very good, the first of what became a trilogy of sorts 
(with I Married a Communist and The Human Stain).

However, it's a decided change of tone and, I think, if you want Roth in his 
full-blown brilliance, the earlier Zuckerman novels are the ones to read.
